Fletcher-IFPA Security Conference: Expeditionary Solutions fro a Gordian World

March 26-27, 2001

At this conference cosponsored by the United States Marine Corps, Tufts University's Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, and the Institute for Foreign Policy Analysis, Marine Corps leaders joined senior leaders from Congress, the Department of Defense, international military, industry, and academia in discussing many issues surrounding future global challenges and expeditionary solutions to those challenges. More than 200 people participated in the event.

The conference's theme was the increasingly complex - or Gordian - global security setting that defies conventional solutions and how to develop new approaches to the intricate challenges future leaders will face. Along with reviewing past and current perspectives on regional security, conference panels explored such questions as:
