Senior Staff Member
Washington, D.C., Office
The Institute for Foreign Policy Analysis is seeking a full-time senior staff member with at least seven to ten years’ experience in the national/international security affairs field for its Washington, D.C., office. Primary responsibilities include identification of project development opportunities; working with other IFPA personnel on major projects; assisting in proposal development; developing extended policy briefings; drafting conference summary reports; and preparing original papers on a range of foreign and defense policy issues. Secondary responsibilities include planning and execution of subject-related workshops, seminars, and conferences, and management of interns and junior staff as needed. Applicants must possess superior research, writing, and analytic skills, together with demonstrated ability to work with government contract clients.
The position is in a small-office environment, requiring sufficient flexibility to switch between tasks and project areas. Applicant must be a U.S. citizen and either hold a current security clearance or be eligible to apply for one.
Applicants should have at least an M.A. in international affairs, or the
equivalent, with a strong background in security studies and outstanding
writing skills. Congressional, military, or other governmental experience
(e.g., Defense or State department) is desirable, but not required. Foreign
language skills and previous experience with proposal writing for foundation
grants and government contracts are also advantageous. Understanding of
strategic, operational, and policy aspects of defense planning is essential.
Regional knowledge would also be useful, particularly with respect to Europe,
the Middle East, or the Asia-Pacific.
